Thriving on traditional values

Traditional values are still at the heart of Timsons Engineering which, through its 80 year history, has thrived on being able to meet the high expectations of clients.

The company was once known for the manufacture of bespoke printing presses, but changing times in the printing world resulted in a major reorganisation and the expansion of its subcontract manufacturing services to all areas of the business.

The business values the opportunity to be a ‘subcontract partner’. The commitment to diversification has given the management team and its experienced workforce an opportunity to work with new clients in the UK and across the world.

The privately-owned company’s latest initiative is another success story for the engineering specialist that is proud of its role in Kettering’s industrial life. The cast iron foundry and multi-million pound machine shop in Water Street are a stone’s throw from the company’s headquarters in Bath Road. It is here the team can be called upon to create anything from a replacement engine valve for a steam train to components for a wind turbine or a cast iron window for a church in Barbados.

Managing Director Troy McCourt said: “Diversification is now the key to our success and we will continue to prosper. Our clients expect nothing but the best and our highly skilled, experienced workforce understand the importance of high accuracy and on time delivery.”

“Through the foundry we can offer a diverse range of premium quality castings in various weights from just 1kg to 2.5 tonne. We also have the capability of machining single components that weigh a few grams, up to 5,000 kg. Our ongoing investment in the machine shop and a skilled workforce means we can specialise in close tolerance components for use in precision assemblies.”

The company has the quality accreditation ISO 9001:2008 but insists on going above its criteria offering 100 per cent inspection of all components. Access to computerised measuring, balancing and gear inspection equipment is another benefit.

The company’s team believe their core values – technical excellence, capacity, experience and the ability to provide solutions–will make a difference to new and existing clients. Troy added: “We have a good rapport with a wide range of clients and now hope to meet new businesses looking to develop relationships with partners who share their high values.”
